Alicia started here career journey as an award winning firefighting student within Lambton College's Pre-Service Firefighting Diploma Program, retiring as Assistant to the Fire Marshall and Captain (3IC) for Phelps Volunteer Fire & Emergency Services Brigade. Alicia spent nearly a decade learning, growing and educating her fellow fire fighters.

Alicia started her firefighting journey as the first female co-op student with the North Bay Fire Department Station 1. Moving on to play soccer & hockey at Lambton College, Alicia got the experience of a life time on her 2003 On-Shift Placement with Sarnia Fire Department Station 1. She worked the shifts over the 2003 Blackout, experiencing a record breaking night for most calls answered in a single shift. No sooner did Night 2 start when a fatal Suncor crude oil silo fire erupted lasting over 2 days of fire suppression efforts. There is nothing more inspiring to a newbie than to stand at the bottom of a 100' fresh flame. What an experience Sarnia will always be!!

 

In 2003, Alicia was awarded as the silver place winner for her outstanding performance as a women in technology for the memorial bursary honouring the victims of the tragic Polytechnic massacre.

Returning home Alicia joined Phelps VFD in 2003. Phelps was extremely active with the North Bay Military community providing Fire Marshall Services for Relay for Life and as a popular float in the North Bay Santa Clause Parade, where Alicia was dubbed the department's honorary 'Rockin Captain' for her high spirited enthusiasm atop the float truck rooftop! Phelps VFD was also infamous for their haunted house tours each Halloween.

 

Alicia spent countless hours training her fellow EMSP in first responder and truck driving skills. Alicia can drive a 13 speed + 3 deproduction (3 gear shifts 0-5 kph) manual 3200 Gallon diesel water truck on a spring thaw day, backroad rural Northern Ontario. Talk about truck driving skills!!
